Find Your Parts Quicker , Easier and More Reliable
Trinity Auto Parts sells tested used OEM and rebuilt steering columns, rack and pinion assemblies, power steering pumps, and steering gear boxes for cars, trucks, and SUVs. Every unit is inspected before it ships, matched to your VIN, and covered by a warranty, with free shipping across the USA and Canada.
The steering column links your steering wheel to the rack or gear box. On most modern vehicles it also carries the ignition switch, the tilt and telescoping mechanism, and the airbag and steering wheel control wiring, so an exact match matters. Every column, rack, and pump we sell comes from a well-maintained running vehicle and is fully tested, inspected and guaranteed, so you get a ready-to-install part even when the dealer no longer supports the vehicle.
Columns are checked for play in the shaft, tilt and lock function, and ignition operation. Racks and gear boxes are checked for leaks, binding, and excess play. Pumps are checked for noise and leaks. Anything that fails is not listed.
Send us your 17-digit VIN and we confirm the part matches your year, trim, steering type, and options such as tilt, telescoping, or column shift before dispatch. That single step removes most of the guesswork from a steering repair.
Every part ships with a warranty, up to two years on select parts, and the exact term is printed on your quote. Shipping is free across the USA and Canada, and return shipping is free if a part does not fit.
We have been sourcing used and remanufactured auto parts since 1990 and are BBB accredited. Steering parts are a large share of what we ship, so we know which questions to ask before a column or rack ships.
If you want the lowest cost, a tested used OEM unit is usually the answer. If the part on your vehicle is a known wear item, such as a leaking rack, a rebuilt unit with fresh seals may be the better long-term buy. We quote both when both are available.

This guide is for owners and shops replacing a steering column, rack and pinion, power steering pump, or steering gear box with a used or rebuilt part. Decide first whether you need the whole assembly or a sub-component, because that sets the part number and the labor.
A steering column is the shaft assembly that connects the steering wheel to the rack and pinion or steering gear box. On most vehicles it also carries the ignition switch, the tilt and telescoping mechanism, the turn-signal stalks and the airbag clockspring. The rack or gear box turns that rotation into wheel movement, assisted by a hydraulic or electric power steering pump.
For steering columns, a tested used OEM unit is usually the right choice, since the column is mostly mechanical and rarely wears out. For racks, gear boxes, and pumps, which depend on seals, a remanufactured unit is often worth the extra cost when the used part has high mileage.
| Factor | Used OEM | Remanufactured |
|---|---|---|
| Condition | Original factory part, inspected and tested | Worn seals and bushings replaced, then tested |
| Typical cost vs new | Often 50–70% less than a new dealer part | Less than new, more than used |
| Availability | Widest for columns and gear boxes | Best for common racks and pumps |
| Best for | Columns, gear boxes, lower-mileage racks | High-mileage racks, leaking pumps |
Contents depend on how the donor vehicle was dismantled, so we confirm them before shipping.
| Component | Usually included? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tilt and telescoping mechanism | Usually | Built into the column |
| Ignition switch and lock cylinder | Varies by listing | Keys not normally included |
| Clockspring, airbag, steering wheel | Varies by listing | Airbags usually sold separately |
| Inner tie rods on a rack | Usually | Outer tie rod ends vary |
| Pump pulley and reservoir | Varies by listing | Remote reservoirs stay on the car |

A rack and pinion turns the rotation of the steering shaft into side-to-side movement through a pinion gear meshed with a toothed rack; the inner tie rods bolt to the rack ends. It is standard on cars, crossovers, and most modern trucks, in hydraulic, electric, and electro-hydraulic versions. The usual failure is a leaking seal, seen as fluid at the boots. Replacing one requires an alignment.
The power steering pump supplies hydraulic pressure to the rack or gear box. Most are belt-driven; some vehicles use an electric pump that runs on demand. A failing pump whines, groans at full lock, and makes the wheel heavy at low speed. Before ordering, check whether your pump has a bolt-on or remote reservoir and whether the pulley is pressed on, since those change the part number.
A steering gear box uses a recirculating-ball mechanism in a cast housing, with a pitman arm that moves the drag link and tie rods. It is found on older vehicles, body-on-frame trucks, and heavy-duty applications, and it can develop play on center with age. Gear boxes are matched by mounting pattern, input shaft spline, and pitman arm spline, so send the part number and a photo.
A complete column typically carries the steering shaft, the tilt and telescoping mechanism, the ignition switch and lock, the stalks, and often the clockspring and steering angle sensor. An intermediate shaft with universal joints connects it to the rack or gear box. Some vehicles build the electric power steering motor into the column, so it must match exactly.
A shop will disconnect the battery before touching the airbag and clockspring, keep the clockspring centered, and reset the steering angle sensor after a column or rack replacement. Racks and gear boxes need a wheel alignment and, on hydraulic systems, a bleed. Columns with an electronic steering lock or built-in electric power steering may need programming or calibration to the vehicle, and on some models the ignition lock must be matched to your keys. Tell us if your vehicle has push-button start or electric steering.

We sell both. Most steering columns we ship are tested used OEM units, because the column is largely mechanical and rarely wears out. Rebuilt columns are offered where available, and we quote both options when we have them so you can choose on price and condition.
A rack and pinion uses a pinion gear on a toothed rack to move the tie rods directly, which gives precise handling and is standard on cars and most modern trucks. A steering gear box uses a recirculating-ball mechanism and a pitman arm, and is common on older vehicles and heavy-duty trucks. We carry both.
Yes. Domestic truck and passenger car columns, including those for Ford, GMC, Buick, and Corvette applications, are among the most common we source, along with imports. Send your VIN and we will find a tested match from a well-maintained running vehicle with the right tilt, telescoping, and shifter configuration.
It varies by listing. Many pumps come with the pulley attached, and some include the bolt-on reservoir, but vehicles with a remote reservoir keep it on the car. We confirm exactly what is on the pump before it ships, so tell us what your old pump had when you ask for a quote.
The usual signs are power steering fluid leaking from the rack boots, loose or wandering steering, clunking when turning, and uneven tire wear that returns after alignment. A leaking rack is the most common reason for replacement. If the symptoms are noise and heavy steering only, the pump may be the cause instead.
It depends on the vehicle and on whether you choose a used or remanufactured unit. A tested used OEM rack is often 50–70% less than a new dealer part, and a remanufactured rack sits between the two. Request a quote with your VIN and we will send exact pricing with the warranty term.
Yes. We ship steering columns, racks, pumps, and gear boxes across the USA and Canada with free shipping. Delivery is typically 3–5 business days in the continental US, and Canadian orders and freight items can take longer. Your quote will include the estimated delivery time for your address.
Your 17-digit VIN, the year, make, model, and trim, and the engine and drivetrain. For columns, tell us whether you have tilt, telescoping, column shift, or electric power steering. Photos of the old part and its tag help us match the connectors and mounting points before the part is dispatched.
Return shipping is free. Before dispatch we match every part to your VIN and confirm the configuration with you, which prevents most fitment problems. If a part still does not fit, contact us and we arrange the return at no cost to you and source a correct replacement or refund.
