Used and Remanufactured Engines for Sale

Trinity Auto Parts sells tested used OEM engines and remanufactured engines for most cars, trucks and SUVs on the road in the USA and Canada. Send us your VIN and we match a complete engine assembly to your vehicle, confirm the fit before it ships, and back it with a warranty and free shipping.

Every used engine we sell comes from a well-maintained running vehicle and is fully tested, inspected and guaranteed, so it arrives ready to install and covered by its warranty. If you also need a gearbox, ask about an engine and transmission package pulled from the same donor vehicle.

What you get with every engine

Inspected and tested before shipping

Every engine is inspected before it ships. Used engines go through compression testing, oil pressure checks and a visual inspection for leaks, cracks and damage, so you are not gambling on an unknown motor. Remanufactured engines are rebuilt to specification and tested before they are offered.

VIN-matched fitment

Engine families change from year to year, and a small difference in sensors, mounts or cylinder heads can stop an otherwise correct engine from bolting in. We match every engine to your 17-digit VIN and confirm fitment before dispatch, so the unit that arrives is the one your vehicle actually uses.

Warranty and free shipping

Every engine ships with a warranty, up to 2 years on select parts, and the exact term is written on your quote. Shipping is free across the USA and Canada, and return shipping is free too. Typical delivery is 3–5 business days in the continental US.

Why buy from Trinity Auto Parts

Supplying engines since 1990, BBB accredited

We have been supplying used and remanufactured auto parts since 1990 and are BBB accredited. You deal with people who know engines and can tell you what a listing actually includes, not an anonymous marketplace page.

Used OEM or remanufactured, your choice

A tested used OEM engine is the lower-cost route for most daily drivers. A remanufactured engine costs more but comes with new wear components and a longer expected service life. We will tell you honestly which option makes sense for your vehicle, mileage and budget.

Engine Buyer's Guide

This guide is for anyone replacing a complete engine in a car, truck or SUV, whether you do the job yourself or hand it to a shop. Decide first between used OEM and remanufactured; after that, it comes down to matching the exact engine to your VIN.

What is a complete engine?

A complete engine, or long block, is the assembled block, crankshaft, pistons, cylinder heads and valvetrain — the core that a shop bolts your existing manifolds, accessories and sensors onto. A used engine is that assembly removed from a donor vehicle and tested; a remanufactured engine is the same assembly rebuilt to specification with new wear parts.

Used vs remanufactured engine: which should you buy?

For most daily drivers a tested, low-mileage used OEM engine is the sensible choice: the same engine the factory installed, at a fraction of the cost of new. Choose remanufactured if you plan to keep the vehicle for years, the original has very high mileage, or you want new wear components inside.

How to make sure it fits: what we need for a quote

  • VIN (17 digits): driver-side dash at the base of the windshield, the driver door jamb sticker, or your registration.
  • Year, make, model and trim.
  • Engine size and drivetrain (2WD, 4WD or AWD).
  • Transmission type (automatic or manual) and its code if you want an engine and transmission package.
  • Engine code or casting number if visible: usually stamped on a machined pad on the block near the cylinder head or bell housing, or cast into the block side.
  • Photos of the old engine from the front and both sides, so we can compare manifolds, brackets and sensor positions.

Signs your engine is failing

  • Knocking or deep rattling that rises and falls with engine speed.
  • Blue exhaust smoke (burning oil) or steady white smoke (coolant in the cylinders).
  • Persistent misfire or low compression on one or more cylinders.
  • Milky, foamy oil on the dipstick or oil in the coolant reservoir.
  • Low oil pressure warning at idle, or oil consumption that keeps climbing.
  • Repeated overheating after a head gasket or cooling system repair.

Engine and transmission packages

If your transmission is tired too, an engine and transmission package from the same donor vehicle is usually the cleaner repair. The two units already worked together, the mileage matches, and the mounting, sensors and flexplate are known to be compatible. It also means one shipment and one warranty term. Tell us on the quote form that you want both.

Rebuilt vs used engine: what is the difference?

A used engine is sold as it came out of the donor vehicle, tested but not opened up. A rebuilt engine has had the parts that failed replaced and the rest inspected and reused. A remanufactured engine goes further: full disassembly, cleaning, machining and replacement of wear parts to bring it back to specification. Rebuilt sits between used and remanufactured on cost and expected life.

Cylinder heads

The cylinder head sits on top of the block and carries the valves, combustion chambers and, on overhead-cam engines, the camshafts. Heads fail most often from overheating, which can warp the sealing surface or crack it between valve seats. If the bottom end is healthy, a used cylinder head can be a much cheaper fix than a complete engine. If you only need a head, ask and we will source it separately.

Installation & programming notes

A shop will typically transfer accessories, sensors and manifolds from your old engine, replace the gaskets and seals that are disturbed, fit new filters, spark plugs and fluids, and flush the cooling system. If the engine uses a timing belt, most shops replace the belt, tensioner and water pump while the engine is out. If the replacement engine comes from a different model year, ask your shop whether the engine computer or immobilizer needs attention. Plan an early oil change after the first few hundred miles.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a used and a remanufactured engine?

A used engine is the original OEM engine removed from a donor vehicle, tested and sold with its mileage disclosed. A remanufactured engine has been fully disassembled, cleaned, machined and rebuilt with new wear components. Used costs less and suits most daily drivers; remanufactured costs more and suits vehicles you plan to keep for years.

Are your used engines tested before shipping?

Yes. Every used engine goes through a multi-point inspection before shipping, including compression testing, oil pressure checks and a visual inspection for leaks, cracks and damage. Remanufactured engines are rebuilt to specification and tested. We also confirm the engine matches your VIN before it ships.

What is included with a complete engine?

A complete engine from Trinity is a long block: the block, crankshaft, pistons, cylinder heads and valvetrain. Manifolds, sensors, accessories and the flywheel or flexplate vary by listing and are confirmed with you before shipping. Gaskets, fluids, filters and spark plugs are not included; shops fit new ones at install.

Do you offer engine and transmission packages?

Yes. We can supply an engine and transmission package pulled from the same donor vehicle, so the mileage matches and the two units are known to be compatible. Buying both together also means one shipment and one warranty term. Tell us on the quote form that you need both and we will price the package together.

How many miles is OK for a used engine?

There is no single cut-off, because a well-maintained engine with higher mileage can outlast a neglected one with fewer miles. We disclose the mileage of every used engine on the quote and aim for low-mileage units where donor supply allows. Ask us what is available for your engine and we will tell you the options honestly.

How much does a used engine cost compared to new?

A tested used OEM engine is often 50 to 70 percent less than a new engine from the dealer, and a remanufactured engine sits between used and new. The exact price depends on the make, model, mileage and what is included. Request a quote with your VIN and we will send options, prices and delivery estimates.

Do you ship to Canada?

Yes. We ship engines across the USA and Canada, and shipping is free. Typical delivery is 3 to 5 business days in the continental US; deliveries to Canada and freight items such as complete engines can take a little longer. Your quote will include an estimated delivery time for your address.

What information do you need for an accurate quote?

The 17-digit VIN is the most important thing, because it tells us the exact engine your vehicle was built with. Add the year, make, model and trim, engine size, drivetrain, and whether the transmission is automatic or manual. Photos of the old engine help us confirm manifolds, brackets and sensor positions before dispatch.

What if the engine doesn't fit?

Return shipping is free, so you are not stuck with the wrong engine. We match every engine to your VIN and confirm fitment before dispatch, which is why fitment problems are rare. If something is still wrong, contact us at +1 725-208-4566 or [email protected] and we will arrange the return and the correct part.
