Find Your Parts Quicker , Easier and More Reliable
Trinity Auto Parts sells used OEM and remanufactured CV axles, front drive axle shafts, rear axle shafts, and independent rear suspension half shafts for cars, trucks, and SUVs. Every axle comes from a well-maintained running vehicle, is fully tested and inspected before it ships, and matched to your VIN so the spline count, length, and joint style are correct.
A worn constant velocity joint clicks on turns, a torn boot throws grease and quickly ruins the joint, and a bent rear axle shaft causes vibration and seal leaks. A complete replacement shaft with both joints already installed is the quickest fix. Send us your VIN and we will quote a used OEM axle, plus a remanufactured option when one is available.
We check both boots for cracks and grease loss, flex the inner and outer joints to feel for play or roughness, and confirm the shaft is straight. Rear axle shafts are checked at the bearing surface, seal surface, and wheel flange.
CV axles differ by transmission, drivetrain, ABS tone ring, and sometimes by trim or engine within the same model. We confirm the correct shaft against your VIN before it ships.
Every axle ships with a warranty, and select parts carry coverage up to 2 years. Shipping is free across the USA and Canada, and if the part does not fit, return shipping is free too. Most orders reach continental US addresses in 3 to 5 business days.
We have supplied used OEM driveline parts for more than three decades and are BBB accredited. You get a real inspection and a real warranty, not a mystery part in a plain box.
We handle front-wheel-drive CV axles, rear-wheel-drive solid axle shafts, independent rear suspension half shafts, and the front axle shafts used on 4WD pickups and SUVs. Left and right sides are often different lengths, so tell us which side you need.

This guide is for anyone replacing a CV axle, front drive axle shaft, rear axle shaft, or independent rear suspension half shaft. Decide first which position you need (front or rear, left or right), because most axle shafts are side-specific.
A CV axle, or half shaft, is a drive shaft with a constant velocity joint at each end. It carries power from the transaxle or differential to a wheel while the suspension moves and, at the front, while the wheel steers. A solid rear axle shaft does the same job inside a live rear axle housing without CV joints.
A used OEM CV axle is the best choice when you want factory joint quality at the lowest cost. A remanufactured axle makes sense when you want new boots and grease on a shaft that will see hard use. Both are inspected and carry a warranty.
| Factor | Used OEM | Remanufactured |
|---|---|---|
| Condition | Original shaft and joints, inspected for boots, play, and straightness | Joints rebuilt, new boots and grease, tested |
| Typical cost vs new | Often 50–70% less than a new dealer part | Less than new, more than used |
| Availability | Wide for most vehicles | Common front-wheel-drive and 4WD applications |
| Best for | Daily drivers, hard-to-find applications | High-mileage vehicles, work trucks |
A CV axle ships as a complete shaft with both joints and boots attached. A solid rear axle shaft ships as the shaft itself.
| Component | Usually included? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Shaft with inner and outer CV joints | Yes | Complete assembly, ready to install |
| CV boots and clamps | Yes | Inspected for cracks and grease loss |
| ABS tone ring on the outer joint | Varies by listing — confirmed before shipping | Must match your ABS setup |
| Rear axle shaft bearing and retainer | Varies by listing — confirmed before shipping | Sometimes pressed on |
| Axle seal and hub nut | No | Fit new ones at installation |

A CV axle, also called a half shaft, is a drive shaft with a constant velocity joint at each end. The inner joint plunges as the suspension moves, and the outer joint lets the wheel steer while still receiving power. CV axles are used on the front of front-wheel-drive, all-wheel-drive, and independent-front-suspension 4WD vehicles, and at the rear with independent rear suspension. Most failures start with a torn boot.
A drive axle shaft on a solid rear axle is a single forged shaft running from the differential side gear out to the wheel flange, with no CV joints. It is held in by a C-clip inside the differential or by a bearing retainer plate at the outer end. These shafts fail through bending, damaged splines, or worn bearing and seal surfaces. With no joints to wear, a straight used OEM shaft is a long-lasting repair.
The difference comes down to steering. Front axle shafts must let the wheel steer, so they always use CV joints. Rear axle shafts are solid on live-axle trucks and older rear-wheel-drive cars, and use CV joints only with independent rear suspension. Front CV axles are usually different lengths left and right because the transaxle sits off center. Rear solid shafts are often the same both sides, but not always.
No programming is needed for an axle shaft. For a front CV axle, a shop removes the hub nut, separates the lower ball joint or strut from the knuckle, pulls the outer joint from the hub, and pulls the inner joint from the transaxle. A new axle seal is normally fitted and the hub nut torqued to specification. For a solid rear axle shaft, C-clip designs require removing the differential cover and cross pin; retainer-plate designs are pulled from the outside, usually with a new bearing and seal pressed on.

The classic sign is a clicking or popping sound from one front corner when you turn, which gets louder in tighter turns. Grease spattered inside the wheel from a torn boot and vibration under acceleration are also common. Once the joint clicks, replacing the complete axle is the usual repair.
Yes. We carry front-wheel-drive CV axles, front axle shafts for 4WD trucks and SUVs, solid rear axle shafts for live-axle vehicles, and rear half shafts for independent rear suspension. Tell us the position and side you need, because most axles are side-specific and the left and right lengths often differ.
A used CV axle from us ships as a complete assembly: the shaft, the inner and outer CV joints, and the boots. A solid rear axle shaft ships as the shaft itself; whether a bearing or retainer is attached varies by listing and is confirmed before shipping. Seals and hub nuts are not included.
Yes, when they are inspected properly. We check each axle for boot condition, joint play and roughness, and shaft straightness before it ships, and every axle carries a warranty. A used OEM axle keeps the original factory joint quality, which is why many shops prefer it to an unknown-brand new part.
A torn boot caught early can be replaced on its own if the joint is still tight and quiet. Once the joint clicks or has play, most shops replace the complete axle, because the labor to rebuild a joint is similar and the result is less predictable. We can quote a complete used OEM axle either way.
Usually not on front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive vehicles. The transaxle sits off center, so one side is longer than the other, and some vehicles use an intermediate shaft on the longer side. Tell us which side you need, and we will confirm the correct length and spline count against your VIN.
Your 17-digit VIN, the year, make, model, and trim, engine and drivetrain (2WD, 4WD, or AWD), transmission type, and the position you need (front or rear, left or right). Photos of the old shaft and its splined ends help. Use the quote form or call +1 725-208-4566.
Return shipping is free, so a wrong part costs you nothing to send back. We work to avoid that in the first place by matching every axle shaft to your VIN before dispatch, checking length, spline count, joint style, and ABS tone ring against the exact vehicle and position you gave us.
Yes. We ship CV axles and axle shafts across the USA and Canada, and shipping is free. Delivery to continental US addresses typically takes 3 to 5 business days, while Canadian deliveries can take a little longer. Your quote will include an expected delivery window for your address.
